Russia Imports A large Number Of Graphite Electrodes From China
Russia imported 3,75 thousand tons of graphite electrodes in June 2020, an increase of 10% over May. This is a decrease of 17% over the same period last year. At the same time, according to the results of the first half of the year, total imports increased by 11% over the same period last year to 24,500 tons.
The main growth comes from China. Total imports from China in the first half of this year increased by 31% year-on-year to 14,300 tons (58% of total imports, 9 percentage points higher than the same period last year).
Although most Chinese graphite electrode manufacturers have the lowest or negative profit margins, China’s exports are still high, with an average increase of 3% over last year, and about 28,500 tons per month in the first half of the year. At the same time, the Russian market is still one of the main markets for Chinese suppliers, accounting for 9% of exports.
