What are graphite electrodes?
l Graphite electrode is a kind of high temperature and oxidation resistant conductive material manufactured by a series of processes such as crushing, batching, kneading, molding, baking, impregnation, graphitization, and mechanical processing using petroleum coke, needle coke as raw material and coal pitch as binder.
l Graphite Electrode is widely used in steel-making electric arc furnaces, refining furnaces, submerged arc furnaces (for the production of ferroalloys, industrial silicon, yellow phosphorus), and other furnaces that use electric current to generate high temperatures. Based on furnace electric current capability, graphite electrodes are classified into different grades accordingly.
● UHP graphite electrodes – Ultra high power.
● HP graphite electrodes – High power.
● RP graphite electrodes – Regular power.
Regular power graphite electrode. Graphite electrodes with a current density lower than 17A/cm2 are allowed, mainly used in ordinary power electric furnaces for steelmaking, silicon making, and yellow phosphorus making.
Graphite electrode with anti-oxidation coating. The graphite electrode coated with an anti-oxidation protective layer forms a protective layer that can conduct electricity and can withstand high-temperature oxidation, reducing electrode consumption during steelmaking.
High-power graphite electrode. Graphite electrodes with a current density of 18-25A/cm2 are allowed, and they are mainly used in high-power electric arc furnaces for steelmaking.
Ultra-high power graphite electrode. Graphite electrodes with a current density greater than 25A/cm 2 are allowed. Mainly used for ultra-high power steelmaking electric arc furnace.
